Making Gold - a review

Making gold is a game within a game for me. However I come across of lot of people that sometimes struggle to have enough gold for repairs. So I thought I'd write this post to give my top five tips for keep yourself affluent - so you have money for repairs, gems and enchants - whilst allowing yourself enough left over to save for those biggest purchases such as primordial saronite.

1. Daily Quests - you can do 25 a day - and if you stick to the Northrend ones you can easily make 500g a day. Now think about that - 500g a day is two primordial saronites a week - or 46 emblems of frost.

I understand that dailies arent everyones cup of tea but even if you just stick to a few a day - such as the dalaran cooking and fishing ones - you'll get 50-100g plus you'll be working on those professions.

2. Professions - don't let anyone tell you that you cant make gold with each and every profession. I've posted guides to skinning, engineering and enchanting on this forum - but you can make money with each of the professions. The key to making gold though is taking pride in your chosen profession. Do some research, find what sells and focus in these areas.

Also make sure you invest time into your professions - someone with a profession of 312/450 isnt going to make as much as some with 450/450 and a whole lot more recipes/patterns/schematics/plans. And talking of recipes - use wowhead to find which ones you dont have. There are a lot of random recipes that drop off mobs, or that require rep with some faction or another - invest the time now and be reaping the rewards forever.

Oh and dont underestimate the gathering professions - skinning, herbing and mining are all great professions for making money. Again, know your market - there are some mats that are really overpriced on the AH because they are farmed less. Think Outlands!

3. Running Heroics - I know people are getting bored of these - but they are a good source of gold. An average heroic will make you around 20g just in gold looted from mobs, add on top of this trash drops, greens and blues and you are going to make around 30g a run. One tip though - the AH is awash with dream shards - they sell for around 5g a pop. So be careful when selecting 'Disenchant' when a blue item drops off a boss - generally they vendor for more than the price of the shard. Plus of course you get emblems.

4. Emblems - by now you will be awash with Emblems of Triumph. Your options for spending them on upgrades are limited - PvP gear for your BGs or BoA for your new alt - but thats about it. So turn them into gold. There are still BoE items to be purchased with Conquests - and don't forget the gems for Emblems of Heroism. 10 emblems will buy an Ametrine (loved by spell casters and hunters for those yellow sockets). 200 Emblems and you have 20 Ametrine - which will easily make you 2,000g.

5. The Auction House - I am not going to go into depth on how to make money on the AH - my blog does that for those who are interested. However I would promote the idea that everyone should have the addon 'Auctioneer'. Scanning the AH once a day (takes about 2 minutes) will ensure that you only buy things when they are cheap or at a fair price. Oh and power leveling a profession might sound like fun - but you can save literally 1000s of gold coins by taking 2 or 3 days to level a profession rather than 2-3 hours!

Loot everything - make sure you have bag space to be able to pick up each and every item that crosses your path - trash will easily over your repair bills.
