Put to the vote - Guild Loot Rule Elections

More Than Raids is currently voting on the new loot rules. When I thought about it I realised that the best loot rules I could come up with were those that already existed - which isnt surprising because I had a lot to do with writing them in the first place
Each member of the guild has been invited to participate - the options are as follows:

  1. DKP
  2. Suicide Kings
  3. Main Spec/Off Spec Version A
  4. Main Spec/Off Spec Version B
  5. Main Spec/Off Spec Version C
  6. No Spec (current system)
  7. Need/Greed
  8. /roll

The three MS>OS versions are similar but have important differences.

Version A states:
  • Main Spec rolls first, if no one rolls, goes to Off Spec roll with the following rules applied
  • Every member advises a rolling Main spec and an OFF spec to GM .  This is put onto a spreadsheet and that is your Rolling MS for any run regardless of if you are in there on your MS or OS.
  • If a piece drops and the people rolling MS have already won a piece.... goes to OS and see if anyone who hasn't already won loot could use it as an upgrade
  • You can change your rolling spec by discussion with GM
Version B states:
  • Main Spec rolls first, if no one rolls, goes to Off Spec roll with the following rules applie
  • People select their MS or OS at the start of the raid. If they don’t say which spec they are rolling on they will be ineligible to roll.
  •  Loot will not be rolled until a ¼ is completed – eg Loot is stored until Saurfang is downed then rolled on.
  • You can select or change your rolling spec at the beginning of any raid.
Version C is the most detailed:

Main Spec rolls first, if no one rolls, goes to Off Spec roll with the following rules applied
  1. Healers/Casters both free to roll on hit/mp5 gear. This applies to all items except trinkets with specific "on heal" or "on damaging spell" procs.
  2. Need to stick to armour class. You can roll on another armour Class as OS. Generally "BiS" is a few crit/haste/random stat different from you best in armour class item and we're really not that 'hi end' to warrant worrying about that.
e.g. Spellpower Mail Bracers drop. Ele/Resto Shammy can roll MS. Enh/Holy Pally roll O/S
  3. People requested to perform another spec for one fight in the raid can roll on either class for that boss and the following boss.
    OR:
People requested to perform another spec get to roll 1 main spec for each class they play. e.g MS on a heals item, MS on a Tank item.
  4. Characters in the guild who regularily perform two roles in a raid can be nominated by the GM or her appointee to roll Main Spec on either class the switch between regularily in a raid.
Loot Distribution:
  • 1 MS drop per run. Once you've won something, the next highest MS roll gets the item. If everyone who rolls has won, highest roll wins.  LM to keep a tally of drops for this purpose.
  • OS rules to operate as per MS rules, 1 each, but counted separately from MS loot.
  • Loot Master to keep note of who has what wins.
  • Loot to be rolled after each boss. This is to make it work for every run and to prevent loot getting bound to the LM after a 2hr limit.
The current rules are:
  • Anyone can elect to roll on an item THEY can use.
  • If you win an item, your roll on another item will not be considered eligible for the item if your items won total is higher than those you roll against.
  • If all people rolling for an item have the same items won total, then all rolls count.
NOTE: It is the number of items won, not the number of items you roll on, which is totalled.
NOTE: If there are no takers for an item it will go to the guild for DE. Enchanting mats will not be rolled.

Each set of rules was put forward by a senior member of the guild and we've all agreed that whatever wins will be accepted as the new set of loot rules.Let voting commence!

There are a lot of interesting ideas here...though some of them rub me the wrong way.

    - I really like the idea of letting people who regularly fill multiple roles roll on both as MS...or at least before regular OS rolls.
    - While it's good to consider last loot won so that someone doesn't win six things in one night, I don't like rules which penalize you for winning a second item. I think it leads towards people *not* rolling on a side grade or significant upgrade because they think something else might drop later that they are desperate for.
    - I think that "roll on any item you can use" is a bit too vague. Supporting people working towards your progression with gear versus people who want to queue as a tank in heroics or do dailies with a DPS/Healing offspec is important.
    - Healers rolling on a hit item or anyone rolling on an item with a lesser armor class as OS is a good way of handling that.

    Just my thoughts.
